Medical Massage

What is medical massage therapy?

A medical massage is performed under the direction of a doctor. Depending on your injury or chronic problem in your musculoskeletal system the doctor will prescribe and medical-massage. This type of massage is usually part of an overall care plan done with chiropractic, rehab exercise, and physiotherapy.

Medical massage therapy will involve stretching, movement, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, and a decrease in nerve sensitivity.

How is medical massage therapy different from regular massage therapy?

It is outcome-based, meaning goals are set at the initiation of the care plan and measured and monitored throughout the course of treatment. In addition to stress relief, a medical massage focuses on a specific medical need. It is often used to manage pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, relieve nerve compression, increase flexibility or help with other health care concerns.

Is medical massage therapy covered by insurance?

We wish all massage was covered by insurance but unfortunately, most insurance companies do not cover massage as a medical treatment. This type of massage gives great benefit and relief to many patients so the non coverage by insurance does not diminish the medical value of this treatment.
