Types of Massage:

Massage therapy is a manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons: to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.  Our massages are performed in a warm comfortable room that allows you to relax and recover the battle of daily stresses.


Massage is not purely a luxury you get when on vacation it is a necessity for your overall healing and wellness.  To show how important massage is to your overall wellness we may include it as part of your care plan to help not only reduce muscle spasms and soreness but also to promote relaxation and stress reduction. Massage may also be used together with Chiropractic Care and even acupuncture or weight loss.


Our massage therapist has extensive schooling and years of experience in treating people who have a musculoskeletal issue that goes beyond an occasional sore muscle.  Because we view massage as therapy we incorporate it into our patient's care plans along with Chiropractic, exercise, and nutrition. We like to say the massage is the reward for all the hard work you have done.

  • Relaxation Massage - also known as Swedish massage; this is for pure relaxation and reduction of stress and anxiety.  The Therapist uses light pressure and longer strokes.  Relaxation massage is perfect for stress, tension, depression, a busy mind, or people who prefer a lighter touch or are sensitive.

  • Deep Tissue Massage – also known as therapeutic tissue, or medical massage.  This type of massage is targeted to rehabilitate an injury, reduce pain, and release deep muscle tension that is produced by exercise. The Therapist uses firm pressure along with stretches that release deep spasms, trigger points, and metabolic waste in the muscles. Therapeutic massage helps with back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, or people who prefer a firmer touch.


  • Sports Massage - Sports Massage is a must for both weekend warriors and elite athletes. It is an essential part of any recovery routine.  Sports massage can help improve performance, prevent injury and speed recovery from muscle and soft tissue soreness and the everyday aches and pains associated with sports.  This massage focuses on the muscles that the athlete's sports rely on the most and is individualized for each person and sport.  If you are looking for enhanced athletic performance, recovery or increased range of motion and flexibility this is a great massage for you.


  • Hot Stone Massage - Hot Stone Massage is a relaxing massage experience.  The heated stones are used to gently massage into your muscles to relieve all of your stress and tension. The stones are soothing and relaxing while providing a penetrating heat that encourages your muscles to relax and loosen. Hot Stone Massage is wonderful for deep relaxation, fibromyalgia, tension, muscle spasms, and back, or joint pain.


  • Cupping Therapy with Massage - Cupping Therapy creates pressure on the skin with the suction of a small cup.  The suction is created by a hand pump attached to the cup.  This form of therapy has been practiced for thousands of years and is safe, effective, and very relaxing.  Cupping therapy releases muscle spasms and soft tissue irritations, draws out excess fluid and toxins, loosens adhesions, lifts connective tissue, and brings relief and blood flow to the skin and muscles.

  • Trigger Point Massage Therapy - Have you ever felt not or lumps in your muscles these are called trigger points.  It is a buildup of lactic acid and metabolic waste that has accumulated in your muscles because of a lack of circulation caused by muscle spasms. If you have ever had a trigger point you know they are painful! Trigger point massage therapy works these painful points out and relieves pain and stress.

  • Lymphatic Massage - Sometimes called lymphatic drainage massage, lymphatic massage is excellent for encouraging the movement of lymphatic fluid from your arms and legs. It is a gentle massage stroking movement towards the heart to allow for the excess fluid to drain. 

  • Medical Massage Therapy - A medical massage is performed under the direction of a doctor. Depending on your injury or chronic problem in your musculoskeletal system the doctor will prescribe and medical massage. This type of massage is usually part of an overall care plan done with chiropractic, rehab exercise, and physiotherapy. Medical massage therapy will involve stretching, movement, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, and decreased nerve sensitivity.

  • Blended Massage -A blended massage is a combination of a few different types of techniques. For example, a deep tissue massage performed on the part of your body you might have an injury or spasms in and a relaxation massage near the end of the massage to give you a calming mind and relaxed state of your body.  This would allow you to have the therapeutic benefits of the deep tissue massage and the relaxation of a Swedish massage all in the same treatment. Sometimes the different types of massage are done on two different body parts.

  • Chair Massage - A chair massage, also known as the seated massage is a massage done sitting up, well almost sitting up you were sitting or actually leaning forward in a specially designed chair.  This chair allows your back and neck to face the therapist while your face is in a cradle and your arms are resting armrest in front of you. 

  • Heated Massage Table - Have you ever had a massage on a table that was not heated? The minute you get up you are cold and shivering. The muscles that you just worked so hard to relax are now contracting and spasming. This is why at McLaughlin Care we only use heated massage tables during both the summer and the winter.

  • Prenatal Massage -The difference between a prenatal massage and a regular massage during pregnancy the patient lies on their side during the massage. The massage strokes are mild to moderate but not deep during pregnancy. Massage is not performed near the belly during pregnancy. Acupressure points are also avoided Certain to eliminate stimulation of the bladder and uterus.

  • Pregnancy Post Natal Massage - After nine months of caring for a baby in your body and then going through delivery now, it is your time to begin to heal. Pregnancy and post-Natal massages help moms get their bodies back. No doubt caring for that new bundle of joy and putting them in car seats and strollers can really pay a toll on your back and neck.

  • Myofascial Release Massage - A myofascial release massage is a technique that focuses on pain that arises from the myofascial tissue (covering the muscles that wrap around and support the muscles). It involves gentle pressure on the connective tissue and fascia surrounding the muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. Release the fascia that is "squeezing" the muscle is known to relieve chronic pain.
