Intersegmental Traction

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

Hey Dr. McNamara here at McLaughlin care, and I'm going to show you our newest addition to the office, the intersegmental traction table. So I'm just going to pop the top off of this real quick, just so you can see what it looks like underneath. All right. So now this is not a medieval torture device. This is intersegmental traction. I'll turn it on.

You could see we've got these rollers and the table vibrates. What this does, is it stretches out the spine, particularly in between vertebra, where you have all these muscles and ligaments that connect each vertebrae to vertebra. Muscles like the multifidus throughout the spine as well as, the rotators longus and brevis. It gives them a nice stretch, as well as a little bit mechanical massage with the vibration proprioreceptive input.

It causes those muscles to relax. It returns to normal range of motion on the spot. It can help increase blood flow and help facilitate the healing of a back pain a little bit faster. And the best part is it just feels really, really good. I'm taking myself off the table, but anyways, I think I'll turn off the lights and take a little nap here and we'll see you next Wednesday.

Okay. Any comments or questions? Just leave them in the comments, or give us a call in the office and we'll set up an appointment. thank you.
